The Georgia Aquarium

A few weeks ago, Kelly, the girls, and I took a trip to Atlanta. Since Kelly got a promotion at work he has had to go to several trainings. His last training for the summer was in Atlanta. The girls and I decided to tag along and do some site seeing while we were there. Our first stop was the Georgia Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the world! The aquarium was divided into five galleries, Ocean Voyager, Cold Water Quest, River Scout, Tropical Diver, and Georgia Explorer. One of our closest couple friends were also in Atlanta and they got to join us on our trip to the aquarium.

Our first exhibit was the Ocean Voyager. This exhibit housed the massive whale sharks and huge manta rays plus many more fish. The girls were a little hesitant to get right up at the glass to begin with, but once they realized the sharks would not come through the glass, they got closer. If I remember correctly, the glass at the Ocean Voyager tank is two feet thick!!! We got to see a broadcast feeding of the fish in the Ocean Voyager tank! The larger animals like the whale sharks and manta rays are individually fed, whereas the other fish have food pumped into the tank.

The next gallery was the Cold Water Quest. The main attraction was the beluga whales. The girls were in awe of these whales and we ended up looking at the whales for a while. We also saw sea otters and got directly in the middle of the penguin exhibit. There was a tunnel we crawled through which landed us in the middle of the exhibit. There was a glass dome you could stick your head in and see the penguins up close and personal. The girls loved that!

The River Scout gallery was animals you would typically see on a river. Like river otters, turtles, piranhas, etc. The Georgia Explorer had a huge play area for kids and there were displays where you could touch horse shoe crabs, shrimp, etc.

Probably my favorite gallery was the last one...Tropical Diver. The tank held a massive barrier reef and all types of tropical fish were swimming around it! It made me want to go to Australia and scuba dive on the Great Barrier reef. It was so peaceful and calming!

The girls got to touch many animals like rays, starfish, horse shoe crabs, anemones and much more. This was such an awesome trip and one I would not mind repeating in the future.
