Wyoming, DE

Our second full day in Delaware was spent exploring Wyoming, DE.  Aunt Connie and Uncle Mike do not technically live in Dover.  They live a few miles outside of Dover in Wyoming, DE.  When we first arrived in Wyoming, I was surprised at how rural it was and how much farm land there was.  Huge homes sat in the middle of even bigger fields of wheat.  Field pivot systems were everywhere as were tractors.  It was familiar and I loved it!!

That morning Uncle Mike treated us to a meal at Hall's family restaurant.  This is a favorite local breakfast spot for Aunt Connie and Uncle Mike.  The food was good and they get an A+ for having sweet tea!  Did you know that once you get north of Virginia many restaurants do not offer sweet tea as a beverage?  So to get it in Delaware was a special treat...and it was pretty good.  While there, Kelly tried a new side dish called scrapple.  From what I understand, scrapple is made up of scraps of pork and other meats blended with cornmeal and shaped into loaves for frying, etc.  Yep, sounds about as good as it looked...gross.

After breakfast, Uncle Mike went home and the rest of us toured downtown Dover.  We visited the old capital, the new capital and even saw the Governor's office.  Everything was so laid back, slow paced, and not crowded.  We enjoyed it immensely!  In the old capitol tour, the guides were dressed in apparel worn around the time the Constitution was ratified.  We learned why Delaware is called The First State and that the state bird is the blue hen and the state bug is the ladybug.  Everyone we spoke with was so knowledgeable and it was very interesting.

That afternoon Aunt Connie and Uncle Mike treated us to delicious home made ice-crean at Byler's.  Byler's is a local grocery store/country general store that has the most delicious homemade ice cream.  The single scoop is so huge that it is almost too much to eat.  Oh, and did I mention it is only $1.00!!  Score!  As we left Byler's Aunt Connie wanted to stop by an Amish homestead and purchase some flowers.  The girls were very excited to do this.  They were excited to see Amish people and how they live.  I was only able to take a picture of the house as we drove up because Amish people do not like their picture taken and I wanted to be respectful of that.  Let me just say, I have never seen so many beautiful, well-kept flowers and plants in my life!  I wish we had these locally.


For supper that night we went to a great Italian restaurant and enjoyed a delicious, authentic Italian meal.  After supper, we went back to get a good night's rest as we were headed to Washington D.C. the next morning.  Delaware was such a wonderful place to visit and we had the most gracious host and hostess.  We are definitely planning a return trip.
