On our last full day in D.C., we started the morning off by visiting Ford's Theater. If you are not familiar with Ford's Theater, this is where Abraham Lincoln was shot. The area leading up to the theater was full of eery and interesting facts leading up to that fateful night. Things that were done and words that were said suggested a premonition of Lincoln's death. Right before we entered the theater, there was a huge glassed in box that had the actual suit Lincoln wore that night as well as the pillow he died on (with blood stains on it), the actual door to the booth and the instrument used to pry open the booth door.
Once we stepped into the theater it was as if we had stepped back in time. The theater looked untouched, as far as decor goes, and we got to see the actual booth in which Lincoln was shot. The girls soaked up every minute of it and I, myself learned more than I had ever known about the assassination and the events that followed.
Once we left the theater, we headed across the street to tour the actual house where Lincoln died. He did not die immediately and was transported across the street to a home where treatment was attempted to save his life. The home was the only one on the block that looked like it belonged in 1865. We toured the home and saw a replica of the room where Lincoln died.
We were then led to another room that told of what happened to those that conspired with John Wilkes Booth to kill Lincoln. It was very interesting. The tours were very well done and I recommend them to anyone traveling to D.C.
