Girls First Triathalon

Today Ava and Claire participated in their very first triathalon hosted by our local YMCA.  Lealane and the O's have participated in this event before and had lots of fun.  Ava and Claire love to swim, bike, and run so I thought we would give it a "tri" this year.  The girls were in different age groups so they did not compete against each other.  Each age group started ten minutes after the previous group in order to avoid crowding.  Ava's group had to swim one length of the pool, then bike two laps around the track, and finish by running one lap around the track.  Ava did well and finished in the middle of the pack.

Claire's group was the very last group to compete.  When the buzzer sounded to begin swimming, Claire took off.  She was well ahead of any other kid in her group.  She was the first one finished in transition and was off to her bike.  During transition, a little boy caught up and was slightly ahead of Claire in the bicycle part.  Claire pedaled quickly and caught up and she and the boy got off their bikes to complete the last leg of the competition...running.  Now, anyone who knows Claire knows she is fast.  I mean really fast!!!  The boy did not know Claire which prompted him to tell his mom as he got off his bike, "Now I got her!"  Needless to say Claire dusted him!  She stretched those long legs out and left everyone!  She won her age division and was very excited!

Both girls really enjoyed competing and want to participate in more triathalons.
